Costume
Costume varies in psychological thriller films as it depends on the location. If the main character lives in a built up urban area the character is most likely to be wearing a suit. However if the character lived in a run down area they are most likely not going to be wearing smart clothes and look scruffy.
The antagonist in these films usually dresses to there personality so therefore dark colours to represent mystery and suspicion and the protagonist is usually the opposite as wearing bright or normal colours.
Lighting
Low Level Lighting - is a common use in psychological thriller as it helps to portray mystery and suspicion for example this type of lighting can be used to cast shadows which is a key code/convention in these types of films.
Location
Location is a main theme in psychological thrillers as this displays the characters personality and life style. For example a well dressed man living in an urban area suggests high class and less likely to be the antagonist of the film where as someone who lives in a run down area and looks scruffy presents them self as the antagonist. This type of character is most likely to be the main factor for mystery or something happening in the film.
Make-up
Make-up is used in many films to create a characters look or personality. In these types of films make-up is used to create an un-natural look about a character or discomfort. There is also the use of blood to create a physical state about a character for example if a character had a sudden nose bleed.
Props
Props are a key factor in these films as they help to create clues to show suspicion and keep the audience intrigued.
A well used prop in most psychological thriller is mirrors, these help represent the character reflection of inner self and his state of being. This also helps indicate whether or not something is about to happen e.g death.
