Camera shots, Editing and Sound

Sound

In film there are sounds which accompany what we see although we don't notice it it helps portray whats is happening or what is about to happen. It helps provide depth to a character or location to make a scene more relaxing or intense.
High Tension music or eerie sounds re used in psychological thrillers with the help of contrasting silence to make a scene more intense.
  • Non Diagetic
  • Diagetic
  • Also some use of dialogue or voice over to hear what a character is thinking or feeling.

Editing/Camera Shots

In this Genre fast paced editing is used to create an intense atmosphere around a character and to build suspense on a scene. Commonly used shots are mid-shot and close ups as these help portray a characters emotion to create realism so that an audience can relate or sympathise with a character.

Another commonly used technique is flashbacks to help portray why a character is how they are to give the audience an insight to a characters life and how they become what they are.

Fast paced editing is used when a scene is escalating to build tension when there is a killer e.t.c or in some cases slow motion is used to really impact on the audience with the characters actions and facial expression to build suspense of something about to happen. Types of shots and music help present clues in a film to show an audience why is he doing that and to give clues to what a characters like. A film which shows this is the film SE7EN where it give you close ups of the main character and gives an insight to the characters mind and life and weird things happen to confuse the audience making more suspense and suspicion in the film.
